  • Foxfire and I recently got an e-mail in the mod account asking us to share this academic survey about RP with you guys.
My friends and I are working on a presentation about text roleplaying. We want to look at demographics - who plays, what do they play, and why. We created a survey to help us collect data. It's basic stuff (gender, age, genre preference, etc), and is completely anonymous. The data we collect will be put towards a powerpoint presentation later on in the summer.
The survey itself is over here if you'd like to contribute to it.

  • We are now accepting applications for original characters. They'll use the same app as everybody else, but keep in mind that we will be looking for a lot more detail from them.

  • This bullet point is for your token reminders that Activity Check is this Sunday be sure to use your tags or else and also we're still missing some people's info for the Player Contact page.

  • We now have a much-overdue FAQ and Listing for the gods of Anemoi. Foxfire and I took the liberty of adding gods from canons we're familiar with to the list already, but if your canon has god-worthy monsters and isn't on there, by all means, let us know, that's what the page is there for. That and questions, of course.

  • We also have a probably-not-needed-for-a-while-yet Canon Updates page! So if you ever want to canon update, the option is now available to you.

  • We still have some people who haven't commented to the Player Contact page yet! Please check and make sure you've done this, guys!

  • Activity Check is this Sunday night! Make sure you're putting your character's tag on everything your character, er, tags, or else it won't count for the check!

  • EDIT: WHOOPS FORGOT SOMETHING. The Locations page has been updated with some significant places within town. If there's anything you think belongs on there that I've missed, feel free to comment there.

A few miscellaneous announcements today!

  • Villain apps are now OPEN. They will remain so until we have 3 villains in the game.

  • The Player Contact page has been modified to include who plays what characters. This also counts as a reminder to please take a look at this page and make sure all your info is up-to-date! Some of our newer players have neglected to comment to the page at all, and many of our older players (myself included, whoops) neglected to update their info after the move from LJ to DW.

  • ATP is tomorrow/technically later tonight depending on your time zone! Consider this your reminder that we have a Requested Characters page, and I think it would be a good idea if you checked it and made sure it was up-to-date. :|b Also consider this your token reminder to behave yourselves on ATP: don't pimp the game to anybody who doesn't want memory loss and don't pimp it to everyone indiscriminately.

  • Remember, Activity Check is this Sunday night! Make sure to tag your posts.

  • The comms and mod journal have a custom layout now, and by "now" I mean "since I changed it sometime last week". Not an important announcement or anything, but I figured I might as well let you know while I'm here.

We are pleased to announce that the highly-anticipated villain system is finally (about to be) in operation! Here are the rules for apping and playing villains:

  • "Villain" is not a term that needs to be taken literally: you could play a heroic character in one of these slots if they'd be too antagonistic to play normally, and conversely, you can app an antagonist as a normal character, even if they continue to be antagonistic--this system is designed to make it possible to play villains who wouldn't fit as a normal character in this setting, not to limit the amount of villainous characters overall.

  • Villains are exempt from memory loss. Through either cunning or, more likely, sheer narrative convenience dumb luck, they have evaded attack by the gods that steal everyone else's memories. In lieu of being brought to the lab, they are instead located by the Sirocco Operation Society, a small, independent group of Sirocco's citizens who are dissatisfied with how things are currently run, and brought to a small base located on Sirocco's outskirts. These are your mooks/lackeys/etc. and villain characters are free to NPC or ignore them as they wish.

  • Alternatively, it's possible that the SOS saved the villain mid-attack by a god, leaving them with partial memory loss, if that's how you’d rather play it. The SOS has a mole among the lab scientists, so villains can still get anemoi processed.

  • The SOS have "liberated" a few smartphones from the labs, so you can choose whether or not your villain character can have one.

  • Villain slots are limited to three in the game at once and one villain per player. Villains do not count against your character limit, meaning you can play a maximum of six characters: five normal characters and one villain.

  • Villain apps are processed on a first-come-first-serve basis. However, you may reserve a villain slot.

  • Villains have their own app form; this has been added to the app page.

  • Activity will be much more lenient for villains than for normal characters: a villain must go three cycles in a row (that's six weeks) without showing any Adequate Presence before they earn Warned status. What constitutes Adequate Presence is determined on a case-by-case basis: only two well-placed comments might be enough for a manipulative schemer, but it wouldn't fly for a character meant to be a regular nuisance. As a general rule of thumb, if it affects the other characters in the game (even if it's only annoying them a little), it counts as Adequate Presence.

  • If a villain fails to show Adequate Presence for a fourth cycle after being Warned, they will be dropped from the game and the slot reopened.

  • A villain character can be converted into a normal character if the player so chooses--simply discuss it with a mod, and once you have permission, the character will be attacked by one of the gods and lose their memories. Keep in mind, the things they eventually remember will include their time as a villain character.

We will be officially opening villain apps at 12:01 AM, March 3rd, to give you all a week to get your apps ready. Any questions/thoughts/concerns?

It's been fun, and it's time to say goodbye.

For various reasons, I am stepping down so someone who cares about the game can run it. I simply can't justify staying on here, running a game I've long lost interest in. Needless to say, my characters have been dropped.

That said, speaking with Tenchi has confirmed that we've both lost interest. So right now, we are officially handing the game over to AF (Booster!) and Foxfire (Mokona!).

Just a heads-up about a few things!

  • The Bestiary/Represented Canons and Upgrades page has been updated. Anything with a name and date attached requires the named character to stay in the game until the date for it to become permanent.

  • New addition to the upgrade rules - after three months, you can request another item! If you have an approved comment still on the post, you can't request just yet.

  • Character limit has been upped to five.

  • Villain apps should be up by next week.

So! Pardon the mess on our end, moving is always a bitch and changes do need to be made on our end.

Speaking of changes, I know for a fact that some people, including myself, have decided to change at least one character journal name! So to accommodate that, respond to the Taken Character page with the new journal name and for which character. I'll get to the changed journal names and add them to the comms as soon as I can.

EDIT: Also everyone should rejoin the comms as they see this. That will make it much easier on me to see who is actually paying attention to the move. Also, it will allow you all access to the player contact page if you need it.

So I typically start on AC halfway through the check period, since at least half or more are done before the weekend. And I'm noticing this usually just a character here or there, but then I see this post of Giblert's in which nobody is tagging their character on the post.

Now, typically, if I see someone's post has 20+ comments and two other people tagged on it, I can safely assume they've passed. Usually I'll just go in and make sure there's no multi-part comments and call it a day. That post was 20+ comments... and no one else tagged.

Now, I'm not particularly bothered who tags it. Doing it yourself is typically best. I typically post a comment and tag the post in one fell swoop. Sometimes the post creator will tag people, which I've done from time to time. I'm aware several people have had more experience in journal-based games than comm-based. As long as that tag ends up there, I'm happy.

Because any post that is not tagged does not count towards Activity Check.

I use tags for AC. I go through character by character and go just far enough to ensure they passed. I'm only going to find the posts you've tagged. And, for example, if I'm in a post looking for Kotetsu, I'm focused on finding his tags and will glaze right over Rozalin's tags without paying attention, which will be a problem if she's not tagged. And if, in this example, Kotetsu posted and there's 90 comments and two people tagged? I'm not even going to look in. That's done, I can move on, and I won't see any untagged comments.

You can post your activity in the AC if I say you haven't met it and you totally have. If it's a case that you were still tagging in an older post, I try to go back a few days but it's completely possible I'll miss that. That's fine. If it was because things haven't been tagged, I'm not going to be a very happy camper and you don't get your AC memories.

I'm doing my damnedest not to single anyone out, but my cards are effectively laid out on the table. Questions? Comments? Concerns?

You know what I've learned in this week between PSAs? I screwed up. Big time.

My main problem has been, and likely will be for quite some time, a lack of communication on my part. Case in point: A few people have mentioned that beyond the pattern of intro posts, potential anemoi hunts, and regaining memories to share with the world, there's not a whole lot to do. Foxfire has been an absolute boss and has taken up the mantle of the Job Board. This is one of those things I had in mind since the beginning of the game, but as you can see, it was an unintentionally buried secret. The Job Board, I feel, should provide a decent variety of things to do with the proper motivation behind each job. Furthermore, if anyone else has ideas of how to prompt a few more of these ideas, I'm all ears.

Similarly, one of the problems I've been hearing about has gotten me to re-evaluate the creatures. As of right now, it will not be "a host of deadly creatures right outside our borders!" Again, this was a problem with my communication - that got out of hand and I wasn't as quick to correct the issue as I should have been. Instead, the creatures right outside the border of Sirocco are more nuisances. Bothersome things that aren't really posing a threat towards anyone, but are stopping rebuilding efforts just by being persistent little buggers that can't be wiped out without more manpower.

So, think like trying to clean up a building and disturbing a nest full of Pidgeys. Outside the city proper, to the point that teleporters are needed, will be where the more dangerous creatures are. Any time such creatures get close enough to the city, there will be a call to arms, probably through the job board.

For the final bit of evidence, there have been some questions about memory regains, specifically the speed at which to do so. An 8% rule was thrown out... at which point it wasn't properly documented. Whoops. It is currently on the memories infopost, which is now linked on the FAQ, but as a quick break down, an active character remembering things as fast as possible will regain 8% to 10% per month. This breaks down to 2% for activity, roughly 2% for events, and the remaining 4-6% made up through job board, regular jobs, hunting for anemoi, that sort of thing. Any faster than this and we'll likely ask you to tone it down, but obviously slower is still fine.

Finally, in an unrelated aside, there is now a Bestiary in the event that you are thinking for creatures for any old reason! Please add your links so that it can be a fairly comprehensive listing.
[identity profile] anemoisity.livejournal.com
I don't intend to make this a weekly thing, but a few things have popped up recently that requires informing.

First on the list, Activity Check! I've done some thinking, and as of now, posts do not count towards AC. It occurred to me that posts could be thrown up as the deadline approaches just to make it, and if there's post just to make AC, I think there's an issue. What this means is that there's now a simpler AC that boils down to, per character, ten comments between at least two characters per two weeks. Also, the bonus of being comm-based is that I can use the tags to do AC, so if you don't tag your posts, you run the risk that I won't see your activity, so please tag your posts.

In better news, we are up to twenty-six players! And you know what the best way to celebrate is? Memories! ...unfortunately, memories aren't in the budget right now, so you know what the second best way to celebrate is? Raising the character limit! Players are now limited to four characters, with an added limit of two characters in the same fandom. I wanted to make sure this format worked before opening up more character slots, and frankly, everyone has surpassed even my most liberal estimates in the first three days alone. I might consider raising the cap to five or six in the future, but not likely more than that.

And finally, see that Porom player below this? Yeah, that's Ketsu, and they deserve a big thank you for making our tables look like a boss. Thanks Ketsu!

Hi guys! ATP is tomorrow, Saturday, at 7 PM EST. Since I plan to link directly to the requested characters rather than list them all out there (although I may list out represented fandoms) kindly add your hopes and dreams here! I'm not going to stop you from making your own separate posts or combining with other games, but I'd like to have a composite listing here.

That brings me to two points. First of all, while I admit I've been out of the RP game for quite some time, when I left, there was a large streak on ATP of "no memory loss games." Please respect this. As someone who's been on the receiving end on a different issue, someone coming up saying you'd be perfect for a game you already said you didn't want to join isn't going to endear them to you. If they say they don't want a memory loss game, please don't push the issue.

The second comes more of a result of being a new game. You know how there's always that new game who posts to every single ad saying "come to our game!"? Remember how completely insincere and annoying it sounds once you realize they're doing it? Please don't let that game be Anemoi.

Now, I don't think anyone here is in any particular danger of doing either of these, but I'd prefer to put it out there as a reminder, as I know it's easy to get excited. I'd rather bring in a few less people during this rush than spam the threads and be immediately dismissed due to it.

Thanks for reading, and I hope everyone has a good weekend!

I meant to do this Sunday. Clearly, I am on top of my game.

First of all, Item Requests! If you didn't know it was there, you do now! Rules are that each character gets to bring something in, be it something as small as a wedding ring or as large as a canon's magical system. For those larger requests, there's a new page up, Upgrades, which lists all the potentially game-affecting upgrades.

Secondly, the city of Sirocco! When creating this, I used a real city as a template for Sirocco. For those of you who want to do things in the city but are unsure how things are laid out, this is a bonus, because that means there is now a map! Zoom in, zoom out, or for really fine detail, check out the actual layout of the city by using Street View! The map is pretty sparse at the moment, but I plan to add on it as more happens in-game.

Now, at this point I need to stress, as this is an RP, this is not a picture perfect, set in stone snapshot of the city. Think of it more as a tool; a visual prompt if you're struggling to think of something to post, or you want an idea for what's visually around you without making a ton up on the fly. There's still more than enough room to maneuver around if you want to create your own piece of the map, (somewhat) regardless of what's already there.

Finally, if I'm not mistaken, ATP is just around the corner. I'll be attempting to write the body of an advertising post tomorrow or Thursday, but there are two things I'd like you, the players, to do. First, unless anyone has any objections or is fairly certain it won't work, I'd prefer to just link to the Requested Characters page for any prospective players. So if you've got any ideas for who you'd like to see, please post it over there!

As a second point, I'm sure absolutely no one is aware because the only thing larger than my ability to hide my own flaws is my ego, but aesthetics and I got into a fight once and I gave it a black eye, refuses to talk to me these days. In other words, making this ATP post look good is going to be beyond my abilities. If someone would like to take up that mantle and post something usable, I would be thankful.

And that's my update on things that are happening! Questions? Comments? Suggestions?
